- Total Contraindication (when massage is not recommended) fever, infectious disease, contagious conditions (like cold and flu symptoms), skin diseases, neuritis, strained muscle, sprained ligament, recent operation, or under the influence of drugs or alcohol (including prescription pain medication).
- Local (massage can be performed while avoiding affected areas) abrasions, bruising, pregnancy, sunburn, varicose veins, undiagnosed pain, or inflammation.
- Medical (massage requires written approval from your physician) any condition already being treated by a medical practitioner, aneurysms, blood vessel diseases, cancer, diabetes, edema, epilepsy, psoriasis, or eczema.
Contraindications For Animal Massage
Talk with your Veterinarian to see if there are any existing conditions that your animal has that would contraindicate massage therapy. If massage is safe for your animal, please ask your Veterinarian for written approval before starting any massage program.
Good News
Even though there are times when massage is contraindicated, there are no contraindications for Reiki, other than when an animal chooses not to participate.
